Valerie Work is a New York City based playwright. She currently studies playwriting at Brooklyn College with Mac Wellman and Erin Courtney, and expects to complete her MFA in May 2008. Her plays, which include My Book of Storms, A Week at the NJ Shore, Pigeon Queen, Emily's World the Play, Hazel and the Sun, Sick and The Fighting Frogs vs. Victoria Vanderbilt, have been staged, read or fully produced at Club Midway, Freddie's Lounge, Brooklyn College, The Producers' Club II, Sidewalk Café, Yale University and Washington College. Her current project, an adaptation of The Misanthrope, is scheduled for production at the East 13th St. Theater in June 2008 as part of the annual Bring a Weasel and a Pint of Your Own Blood Festival. She is currently a curator of the Paper Beats Rock reading series at Club Midway, Editor of offoffonline.com, Theater Editor of the Brooklyn Review literary journal, and a contributing author to The Brooklyn Rail. She teaches composition at Brooklyn College and has taught playwriting at the Johns Hopkins University CTY program. She holds a B.A. from Yale, where she directed three productions.
